Dr. Bertin Lab
Dr. Bertin is trained as a Basic Scientist in immunology, inflammation, and cancer research. He received his Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Nice Sophia-Antipolis, Nice, France where he studied cancer immunology. He then completed his post-doctoral training in immunology at UCSD with Dr. Eyal Raz during which he studied study chronic inflammation. Dr. Bertin is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at UCSD. His research is focused on chronic inflammation, which precedes the development of many cancers.
About the Lab
Our lab utilizes various cellular, molecular, biochemical, and immunological techniques as well as murine in vivo models to study human inflammatory diseases and cancer. Current research projects in the lab are focused on chronic inflammation and cancer development, particularly in relation to inflammasome signaling and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. One of our projects aims to investigate the link between chronic exposure to common airborne allergens, chronic lung inflammation, and the risk of developing lung cancer.
Research Highlights
Current projects aim to identify:
- The effect of chronic exposure to aeroallergens on the lung microenvironment
- The role of inflammasomes in inflammation and cancer
- New biomarkers for early detection and targeted therapy in lung cancer
